Hey all!
I'm back, several months after promising you all a few more sweet days of earrings and blogging. The end of college got really crazy, and I'm sorry to say that blogging and jewelry designing took a back seat. Now, months later, I'm bored and hungry for a creative outlet. So I'm back, at least for today. Here's what you've missed in my life:
Summer: This summer, I interned at an art gallery (wahoo!). What a phenomenal (if predictable) thing for an Art History grad to do! The gallery is in midtown, and the internship was a great experience. I did database stuff, but also inventory of actual pieces of art in the warehouse. Plus I made friends (my all-time favorite activity). I also got to live in New York and take advantage of all the fun city goings-on. I wasn't sure if I would be there for longer than the summer, which gave me this great carpe diem attitude. It was fabulous.
Fall: Internship was over, what was I to do? Good question. I ended up securing myself another gallery internship. This gallery was in Chelsea, the gallery capital of Manhattan. But it's a gallery that prides itself on friendliness, something that can't be said about most of the Chelsea scene. So naturally, I loved it. I learned about lots of artists because I was expected to answer questions. How could I answer questions without learning a thing or two myself? I also got to learn some art handling skills, a really cool perk of a smaller gallery where everyone helps with everything. In the meantime, a part-time job opened up at the summer gallery, so I was working part time and interning part time.
Eventually, there was an opening at the summer gallery for a full-time Administrative Assistant position. I accepted the job, said goodbye to the fantastic Chelsea gallery (sadly, I didn't have time for both) and hello to full time employment! Meanwhile, I moved into a new apartment in the same general neighborhood I was subletting in during the summer, and began making a little New York life for myself.
So, let's talk about today's earrings. I used some of my secret weapon square wire to fashion a little abstract shape. It's my secret weapon because it makes anything I do look a little more legit (see rings in past entries). I attached a blue teardrop crystal bead to the bottom, and did a little wire wrapping magic. Voila! Elegant and fun, I think they'll go with anything. Also, if you were wondering... yes, the earrings are being photographed against my apartment's Christmas tree. It makes a fun background and I just love it (it's my first Christmas tree ever!).
Here we are, people, I believe you're all caught up. It's been too long, friends. I need to get my jewelry business back up and running. Man, I missed this.
Love and Beads,
Eve
